BREEDING
As the Club has no studs, or affiliation with the Kennel Club, the Lucas Terrier future relies on members of the club to breed the next generation. On average the club registers between 10-15 litters a year. In 2019, the Club registered 29 puppies. This provides little opportunity for the breed to grow - so every dog and bitch are vital to future of the breed.

BREEDING HEALTH
The Club takes a serious stance on the health and vitality of breeding individuals joining the programme. As such each breeding individual is required to pass two tests:
The Club is also monitoring other health issues including malocclusion, curly tail and umbilical hernias.

THE PUPPY LIST
A club rule requests that at least one puppy from each litter will be placed with the puppy list. Whilst we accept many of you are keen to give to family members and friends, the Club needs to grow the membership. Becky Lythe (Puppy coordinator) provides a brilliant service to potential owners by personally speaking to each application to discuss their interest in the breed and answer any queries.
We have, on average, 160 people on the waiting list. Should a family member or friend be considering one of your puppies, we ask that you refer them to the website to complete a puppy form in advance. This ensures everyone is catered for, dealt with appropriately and given the same experience. Also remember the club provides free membership for new puppy owners for the first year! |
